I. General
These rules were designed with three purposes in mind:

1.
Fairness to all players

2.
Efficiency in running a maximum number of games simultaneously

3.
Minimization of possible disputes between participants
II. Equipment
The following equipment is required for gameplay:

1.
[2] Players Per Team

2.
Table Dimensions- 8' x 2' x 27.5''

3.
40mm Ping Pong Balls

4.
[10] 16-oz cups per side
III. Game Setup
A.
Cup Formation

1.
The starting shot and table sides are decided by separate coin flips or rounds of rochambeau (rock, paper, scissors). When playing rochambeau, one round determines the winner (best of one). Winner of the “starting shot” chooses which team shoots first and winner of “table sides” chooses which side they want (one team can win both).

2.
The game will start with one team taking only one shot. The second team starts regular play with two shots. After the first shot, teams will shoot 2 balls thereafter, alternating shots between team members (both players will shoot one ball per possession).

3.
Basic strategy would say that the winner of the “starting shot” will go second so that they can start with two shots.

4.
When a shot is made, the cup is immediately removed. There is never the opportunity to make the both balls in the same cup.
B.
Content of Cups

1.
24 ounces of water will be used per team and will be distributed evenly in the 6 front cups. The back 4 cups will be filled 1/3 with water. These water cups are not for consumption, they are to be reused every round.
IV. Gameplay
A.
Shooting and Table Sides

1.
10 cups per team

2.
Starting formation is a "tight triangle" formation (rims touching), pointing towards the opposing side. Cups must not be tilted or leaned against the surrounding cups.

3.
The 10-cup triangle must be centered on the table and the back row of cups must be within 1 inch of the edge of the table.
B.
Balls Back

1.
In general, if both players on a team sink their shots on the same turn, that team will get one (1) additional rollback shot, not two.

2.
Either teammate may take the rollback shot.
C.
Miracles

1.
If a shot happens to land and stay on top of the cups, the shot will count as a miss.
D.
Swatting/Grabbing

1.
The ball in play may be grabbed or swatted, however only after it has already made contact with a cup, but not while the ball is in the cup. You may not grab before the ball has hit a cup.

2.
In the event of player interference prior to the ball making contact with a cup, a one-cup penalty will be imposed for the interference. The thrower who had his or her shot interfered with may choose which cup is to be removed.

3.
This means that Bounce Shots are allowed.

a.
Players ARE allowed to let their shots bounce off of the table before making it into the cup. In accordance with B(2) above, bounce-shots may not be interfered with until they have made contact with a cup.
b.
This means that a ball may bounce multiple times without interference.
c.
HOWEVER, It should be noted that bounce-shots only count for ONE cup. Whether the ball bounces or not, a made shot is always worth one cup.
E.
Leaning

1.
Will be permitted, with the following considerations:
a.
A player may not place any object including their body on the table in order to gain additional reach and/or leverage.
b.
Players may not edge themselves around the table when they throw. There entire body must be behind the plane of the table.
i.
This does not mean that you must shoot directly behind the table. Shooting on the side of the table is permitted as long as their entire body is behind the plane of the table.
ii.
This does not mean that you must shoot directly behind the table. Shooting on the side of the table is permitted as long as their entire body is behind the plane of the table.

c.
Prior to, or during the course of taking a shot, a player may not move the cups out of position with his hand, body, or with any object.

d.
If a cup is incidentally moved out of formation while a player is shooting it will be replaced to the original position it was in before the shot was attempted. This reformation will take place once the team has completed their turn.

e.
If a cup is incidentally knocked over while a player is shooting, that cup shall count as a hit and will be removed from the game.
F.
Distractions

1.
Distractions are permitted with the following restrictions [subject to a one cup penalty]
a.
Players may not cross the plane of the table with any part of their bodies, clothing, or other objects, while the ball is in play. To avoid violating this rule, just stand back a few feet from your cups.
b.
Players may not fan, blow, or otherwise intentionally create an air current surrounding the cups in play.
c.
Distractions should not violate any local, state, or federal laws.
G.
Defense and Interference

1.
Defense is defined as swatting a ball once it has hit a cup.
a.
Defense is an effective way to make sure that bad shots do not go in a cup.
b.
If during defense a player knocks over his own cup it is counted as a hit.

2.
Ball Interference
a.
Interference is defined as any contact, intentional or otherwise, between game pieces (balls or cups) and any other objects.
b.
In the event of interference on the part of non-players, such as spectators or officials, the shot is replayed.
c.
In the event that a player drops his/her ball into one of his/her own cups, no penalty is enforced.
d.
All objects sitting on the table are considered part of the table for the purpose of determining interference. Specifically, if a shot bounces off of an errant object on the table (such as a water cup, a cup that has already been hit, a personal drink etc.) and then goes into a live cup, that shot is counted.

3.
Cup Interference
a.
In the event that a player knocks over his or her own cups, those cups are to be counted as though sunk and removed from the table. They are not to be refilled or replaced. The only exception to this rule is when there is only ONE cup left; you CANNOT knock over the last cup. In the event that cups are knocked over by any non-player, those cups are not counted as sunk, and are to be refilled and replaced in their appropriate positions on the table.
i.
The max penalty for knocking over your own cups is 3. (If you knock over 4-10 cups only 3 cups will be removed from the game).
ii.
The opposing team gets to choose which 3 cups are removed.
iii.
In the event that cup interference makes a team miss their opportunity for a reformation, the cups will be set as if they had received the formation. The remaining cups to be removed because of the penalty will then be removed as selected by the team benefiting from the penalty.

iv.
For example, if a team knocks over three cups while there were still 7 remaining. One cup will be removed and then “re-racked” to 6. The benefiting team will then choose which other 2 cups they would like removed.

4.
Balling your own cups
a.
In the event that a player who has possession of the ball drops that ball into his own cups either accidentally or intentionally, no penalty is taken.
b.
In the event that a player who does not have possession of the ball comes in contact with the ball and as a result that ball enters one of his own cups, (such as by unintentionally acting as a backboard) that shot IS counted.

5.
Drifters
a.
In the event that cups drift or are otherwise moved out of formation, those cups may be replaced in their appropriate positions upon request from the opposing team.
b.
In the event that a cup drifts out of its position WHILE a ball attempting to sink those cups is in mid-flight; the shot may be re-tossed ONLY.

6.
Cup Adjustment:
a.
Cups may NOT be moved or adjusted while the ball is being released, or while the ball is in mid-flight. Doing so incurs a 1-cup penalty.

7.
Balls Knocking Over Cups:
a.
Cups should be filled to the point where it is not possible to knock the cup over with the ball. However, in the event that a ball does knock a cup over, the shot is counted as a hit.
i.
This rule is subject to the following: The cup is counted as a hit ONLY if it was apparent that the ball hit the inner rim of the cup.
ii.
If it is absolutely clear that the ball had not entered the cup before it was knocked over, the cup is reset and the shot is considered a miss. You can not just throw a fastball at the side of the cup.
H.
Reformations/Re-Racks

1.
Cups must be re-racked at 6, 3, and 1 according to the diagram below:

2.
Racks must be aligned to the center of the table. When one cup is remaining, the cup shall always be pulled back to within an inch of the end of the table, and it shall be placed in the center of the table.

3.
Cups that drift out of position may be reformed at the request of the thrower.

4.
All re-racks will occur immediately (mid-turn).
a.
If the first player makes his shot leaving only 6 cups, the opposing team must re-rack the cups into a tight 6-cup formation before the second player shoots.
I.
Interference During Reformations

1.
Players are not allowed to shoot until the opposing team has clearly finished reforming. In the event that the thrower shoots before this:
a.
A cup made does not count and the opposing team receives possession of the ball.
b.
A missed shot is counted as a miss and the opposing team receives possession of the ball.
J.
Ending And Winning The Game

1.
For Redemption/Re-buttle & Overtime there are only two possible scenarios that can occur.
a.
If more than one cup is left to make by a team when the last cup is hit, "Unlimited 1-ball Redemption" is given.
i.
This means that either player may take the first shot. If the shot is made the ball is given back and it is their partners turn to make a shot. Players MUST alternate throwers in the event of multiple hits. One player may NOT take all the redemption shots.
ii.
The ball will be given back until either player misses. There is no limit to how many cups can be made in redemption to force overtime. (If the last cup is made by team A, team B can make 10 cups in a row alternating players to force overtime).
b.
If there is only one cup left on each side, meaning one cup vs. one cup the redemption rule changes. In this case the rule of thumb is to take as many shots as you have balls remaining on your side.
i.
For example, if your opponent misses their first shot, but sinks the second into your last cup. You get 2 chances for redemption. Meaning that you may miss once.
ii.
Opponent sinks your last cup on their first shot. You get 1 chance at redemption. Meaning whoever shoots must make it.
iii.
If an opponent sinks your last 2 or 3 cups in 1 turn, you get 2 chances to hit last cup. Meaning you may miss once.
c.
Overtime (3-cup)
i.
Successful redemption results in an initiation of a 3-cup overtime. The dominant team (the team which would have won, had their opponents not forced overtime) selects which team shoots first. Just as with the start of a new game, the team who shoots first will only get one ball.
ii.
Overtime formation is a tight triangle.
iii.
The same redemption and balls back rules apply during overtime as apply during regulation.
V. Miscellaneous
A.
Disputes

1.
A dispute is not considered to be valid unless witnessed by two or more individuals. In the event of a valid dispute, that game is considered paused and the Host must be notified. Any witnesses to the event in question must remain at the table until the dispute has been resolved. All calls made by the Host are final. Intentional abuse of game rules and/or disputation without adequate cause is grounds for ejection from the tournament.
B.
Absentee Players

1.
In the event that a player is temporarily absent, no substitution may be made. The game will continue without the missing player.
a.
Meaning that the team receives only one shot per side until the missing player returns.
b.
In the event that a player is forced to vacate the venue by the owner of the venue, Pongleague.net representative or any other entity deemed to be authoritative on this matter at the sole discretion of Pongleague.net, the team will forfeit the rest of the tournament, will not be permitted back in the venue, and will not be entitled to any refund, in whole or in part, of any fees paid for the event or any associated activities.
C.
Conduct

1.
All players are to conduct themselves in a matter respectful to other players, and the sport of Beer Pong. Unacceptable conduct will result in severe disciplinary action, to be applied at the discretion of the tournament hosts. Unacceptable conduct includes, but is not limited to, fighting, abuse of tournament affiliates, abuse of other players etc.
D.
Rule Interpretation

1.
Final interpretation of these rules is made at the sole discretion of the tournament host. All tournament hosts decisions are final.
